BASIC LIFE SUPPORT TRAINING-CPR AND FIRST AID REFRESHER COURSE SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES

Highlights of Activities:
DAY 01 (April 20, 2010)
• Opening program, introduction of the trainers from the Philippine National Red Cross, Quirino province chapter and trainees from the OGPI and Sagittarius Security Department.
• The training started with a simulation exercise to determine the level of first aid and basic life support skills the participants have
• Short lectures and demonstrations regarding BLS. The emphasis was on Adult, Child and Infant Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and Rescue Breathing.
Lectured topics:
a) Introduction to BLS – CPR
b) Guidelines in Giving Emergency Care
c) Respiratory Arrest & Rescue Breathing
d) Foreign Body Airway Obstruction Management
e) Cardiac Arrest & Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
f) PNRC Services
g) Principles of Red Cross
• A practice return demonstration on Adult, Child and infant CPR and Rescue breathing followed. The trainees were divided into three groups, Group 1 was assigned to do the CPR and Rescue Breathing for Adult into a manikin while Group 2 was assigned to the Child manikin and Group 3 to an infant manikin.
DAY 02 (April 21, 2010)
• The first activity for the day was a graded individual return demonstration on CPR and Rescue Breathing taking into consideration the Emergency Action Principle. Group 1 was assigned to do the CPR and Rescue Breathing on an adult manikin while Group 2 was assigned to the Child manikin and Group 3 to an infant manikin. Everyone did well and passed.
• A written examination on Basic Life Support was given by the trainers. Then a review on First Aid commenced as per scenario in preparation for tomorrows First Aid simulation activity.
• DAY 03 (April 22, 2010)
• Trainees were divided into three groups for the first aid simulation. Group 1 being the rescuers and Group 3 being the victims and the scenario was, a certain individual makes trouble in the crowd leaving victims, (evisceration, head injury, fracture, and wounds). Group 1 rescues the victims; outcome of the rescue was checked with rationales.
• A second round was made and Group 2 was the rescuer while Group 1 acted as the victims. Scenario was the same only that, injuries of the victims are more complicated this time. Outcome of the rescue was checked with rationales.
• The second to the last activity was the final simulation. The scenario was, mining explosion with nine victims. All the things that we learned and reviewed were being assessed during this simulation; Emergency Action Principle: assessing scene safety, tagging, extrication/rescue, sorting, giving First aid and Basic Life Support and methods of carry to be used. Every assigned rescuer did their very best and participated well during this activity and every assigned victim cooperated as well.
• Assessment on the simulation exercises followed shortly.
• A bonus lecture on Stress Management was given to all the participants
• The graduation of trainees was attended by all the Managers present at site; Madam Lucy Exconde, Sir Greg Hora and Director of Security Gil Maglaque. All three gave their inspirational message to the trainees.
DAY 04 (April 23, 2010)
• First Aid and Basic Life Support Olympics Game; this game exercises and polishes the skills of each rescuers and also makes each rescuer have happy moments and bonding because it’s a form of a game. GROUP 2 won the game in the end but as a conclusion, both groups won hence they benefited from the game, polishes their skills acquiring additional knowledge which they can apply in their daily lives not only at work but on the community where they live.
COMMENTS
• Trainees were able to apply the knowledge that they acquired during the BLS-CPR training and First Aid refresher course. It has built their self confidence in giving or extending First Aid and delivering Basic Life Support at work and to the community. Mistakes made were pointed out and was corrected for improvement.
• The trainees requested for a regular or monthly simulation or Olympics Games for First Aid and BLS to ensure that they continually sharpen their skills.
HEALTH AND HYGIENE INSPECTION REPORT
Monitoring and inspection on health and hygiene within the Oceanagold Didipio Gold Copper Project camp and contractors accommodation are conducted every month. The objective of this monthly inspection is to monitor all accommodations and mess hall to observe proper house keeping, waste management and food handling. The composition of inspectors: contractor, clinic, safety department, and village administration representative. All suggestions and recommendations during inspection are reported to Oceanagold management for immediate actions.
